$110 million renovation to transform Markville Shopping Centre into a world-class shopping destination

Markham, ON (June 22, 2011) – The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited is pleased to announce a $110 million renovation of Markville Shopping Centre, revealing a bold new vision of a world-class retail environment for one of Canada’s most cosmopolitan markets.

Markville will be redefined by stunning new south-facing restaurants with “al fresco” seating, a new interior dining area with dramatic north and south-facing exterior entrances and a contemporary and sophisticated interior redesign. Interior common areas will be revamped with sleek, architectural details and a central atrium, with a sweeping, curved staircase and sculpted ceilings helping to create a dramatic and thoroughly modern shopping environment.

“We are committed to creating an outstanding shopping and dining experience at Markville,” said Finley McEwen, Senior Vice-President, Development with Cadillac Fairview. “The mix of merchants we have assembled includes some of the world’s best brands and the two new south-facing restaurants will literally turn the shopping centre inside out.”

Highlights of the transformation:

  • Over 250,000 square feet of commercial space will be re-merchandised with best-in-class and new-to-market brand-name merchants
  • Two new south-facing restaurants featuring outside patio-style seating
  • A new casual, stylish dining court with dramatic new exterior entrances and an expanded seating area, a variety of seating options and a new two-storey court with elevator access
  • 12,000 linear feet of glass handrails
  • 180,000 square feet of new high quality flooring materials chosen to provide a clean, refined look for the common areas
  • A dramatic, sweeping feature staircase in centre court
  • Restroom facilities in the dining court will include separate family washrooms and a mothers’ room
  • New washrooms will be fitted with low flow toilets and “touchless” water, soap and hand dryers

Construction will commence in September 2011. The new dining court is expected to open for Christmas 2012 and the majority of the new merchants will be open for Christmas 2013.
