COVID-19 Update (Updated March 17)
Mar 17, 2020

At Cadillac Fairview our first priority is the health and safety of our guests, tenants/their employees and our employees across our portfolio. In light of many local governments taking actions to support our communities during this difficult time, Cadillac Fairview, as well as our industry peers will be limiting the hours of operation at our shopping malls.

At this point, Public Health has not advised us to close our shopping malls; however, effective Monday, March 16 mall operating hours will be 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. every day (unless the regularly scheduled closing hour is earlier). These hours will remain in place for two weeks, at which point we will re-evaluate. Access to the property will remain unchanged, as we understand there are some services and tenants that may operate as per their usual hours of business, and we will continue to support them in their approach.

Our office properties remain open for business; however, it is up to our clients to determine individual operating hours based on their business needs.

Prior to this declaration we had activated our pandemic plans, including the establishment of a Steering Committee, which meets daily to coordinate efforts across our portfolio. Our additional efforts to help keep our communities safe include the following actions:

Food court changes

As per guidance from Public Health authorities, we will be adjusting our food court operations to takeout only and eliminating seating until further notice in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Enhanced cleaning
We have introduced increased cleaning in all the common areas of our properties, specifically:

  • Washrooms
  • Stairwells
  • Elevators /lobbies
  • Employee common areas

Handwashing guidance/best practices
We have installed handwashing signage based on best practices guidance established by Health Canada in all washrooms and have increased hand sanitizer stations, where products are available, across our properties in order to help minimize the spread of germs.

Reporting procedures
We have established a reporting protocol with our own employees, tenants and contractors, should one of their employees be exposed to coronavirus, to ensure that we are able to contact Health Canada in a timely manner, receive guidance based on the situation and take action as required.

In-property events

We have decided to postpone or cancel all in property events that bring groups together. Examples include, but are not limited to: group yoga, seminars and other community activations.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely, and work with public health authorities as required. We thank you for your support during these unprecedented times.
