Our Environmental Responsibility
CF has a longstanding history of sustainability action, from the launch of the Green at Work® program in 2008, to most recently being ranked #1 in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) assessment amongst our peer group (Northern America - Diversified - Office/Retail - Core) for the fourth, consecutive, year. While we take tremendous pride in these accomplishments, our commitment to sustainability doesn't stop here. As an organization we will continue to make progress by establishing targets and driving performance when it comes to emissions, energy, climate resilience, water and waste.

Green at Work
Our Award-Winning Sustainability Operations Program
CF became the first Canadian real estate organization to launch a sustainability operations program with Green at Work(R) in 2008. We recognized early that sustainability principles not only supported environmental performance, but delivered clear business value to our clients, shoppers and occupants. Over its lifetime, the program has achieved annual industry awards and recognitions and driven the results shared in the Targets & Results section below. CF properties have clear targets for key metrics, including emissions, energy, water, and waste. Our approach is data-driven, supported by a platform that centralizes data management and reporting at the property and portfolio level.
Our Targets and Results
We re-evaluate targets on an annual basis, informed by the latest scientific information. Please read on to view our current results and ongoing targets.

Sustainable Development
By investing in key areas like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, we've not only attracted new businesses but also supported vibrant downtown cores. Collaborative partnerships fuel ongoing projects, including transit and infrastructure enhancements that benefit the wider community. Looking ahead, we're focused on densification, transforming our land bank to meet housing needs. We're set to deliver 7,000 rental units across the country.
New developments use CF’s Low Carbon and Sustainable Development Framework to assess and integrate sustainability considerations across our entire development process, including planning, design, procurement, construction and post-construction. Recently, the Framework helped achieve LEED Platinum certification at 160 Front Street West - a new office tower in Toronto.
